The First International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Data Science (ISDS 2023)

The College of Information and Communication Technology (CICT) of Can Tho University (CTU), one of the seven key faculties in the field of Information Technology in Vietnam, was established in 1994. Training, scientific research, and technology transfer in the field of ICT are the CICT’s committed missions. Recognizing the importance of human needs in the field of IT and its development potential, particularly in the global trend in the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, the CICT has emphasized the improvement and upgrading of human resources, training activities, scientific research, international cooperation and facilities in terms of quality and scale.

The CICT possesses about 100 staff members. All of the lecturers have obtained postgraduate degrees; 40% of them hold a doctoral degree. The lecturers, who are mostly trained at prestigious foreign institutions, are highly enthusiastic, dynamic, and creative in teaching and scientific research. The CICT currently has 6 undergraduate, 3 master, and 1 doctoral study programs, with about 4,500 students. Moreover, the CICT has strengthened both specialized and interdisciplinary research in machine learning, AI, big data, remote sensing images, etc.) to reflect the global trend and demand in scientific research. Accordingly, many research projects have been carried out or are in progress with funding obtained from many different bodies and organizations. Promoting mutual strengths in training and scientific research, the CICT has engaged in collaboration agreements with many domestic and foreign partners.

The first ISDS 2023 took place at CTU

Today, all the systems and applications become more and more intelligent. In those systems, data and information become larger and richer date by date. Thus, AI and Data Science are contemporary topics for associating with intelligent systems. The first International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Data Science (ISDS 2023) is to attract domestic and foreign researchers to CTU to participate and present outstanding and recent research in the field of ICT. This is an opportunity for scientists to meet, exchange, and cooperate. The ISDS 2023 is also a place for students to report and learn new results in the field of ICT. This ISDS conference looks at state-of-the-art and original research issues in the topics of intelligent systems and data science.

Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice-Rector of CTU delivered opening remarks

The conference took place in two days (11th and 12th December 2023) and participated with over 200 delegates from 35 institutes and universities in 14 countries around the world. The ISDS conference has provided an international forum for scientists, researchers, and innovators to share their new ideas and achievements, identify emerging issues, and establish academic collaborations in various disciplines of ICT.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy, Chairman of FISU Vietnam (Vietnam ICT Club of Faculties - Institutes - Schools - Universities), University of Engineering and Technology, VNU Hanoi, appreciated the high impact of CICT not only for the Mekong Delta region but also for FISU Vietnam. On this occasion, the Professor called for contributions to the networking activities of FISU Vietnam in the coming time

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thai Nghe, CICT, represented the organizing committee to introduce ISDS 2023 information to the participants

.There were 5 keynotes presented in the plenary sessions and 65 reports presented in four parallel sessions. The topics of the sessions include Applied ISDS for Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Biomedicine; Intelligent Systems; Big Data, IoT, and Cloud Computing; and Deep Learning and Natural Language Processing - NLP.

The Keynote on Computational instrumentation and imaging for industrial and medical applications was presented by Prof. Masayuki Fukuzawa, Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan

Discussions with the speakers

The Conference received 123 submissions from 15 countries including Bangladesh, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Morocco, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. Through a rigorous review process, 48 articles were published by Springer Verlag in Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS - indexed in Scopus, Q4), and 17 articles were published in CTU Journal of Innovation and Sustainable Development indexed in ACI. /font>
