CTU students achieving numerous accomplishments at the Science and Technology Awards in 2023

On November 10th, 2023, the Awarding Ceremony of Science and Technology Awards for Students in Higher Education Institutions in 2023 took place at the University of Technology and Education - the University of Danang. The awards were organized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Science and Technology Awards for Students in Higher Education Institutions 2023 received support and participation from higher education institutions across the country with nearly 10,000 research projects from 103 universities. After the preliminary round, 481 research projects in six fields of science and technology were chosen to the final round, and the Organizing Committee awarded 354 prizes, including 16 first prizes, 68 second prizes, 106 third prizes, and 164 consolation prizes.

Can Tho University (CTU) had 16 research projects selected by the preliminary evaluation board to compete in the final round.

In the final round, students from CTU achieved outstanding results, specifically 1 first prize, 4 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 6 consolation prizes in the fields of Agriculture Science, Natural Science, Social Science, Engineering, and Technology. Some notable research projects include:

* First prize: The research project titled "Assessing the population dynamics of the striped catfish Mystus mysticetus Robert, 1992 along the Hau River from Can Tho to Soc Trang" (Vietnamses: “Đánh giá biến động quần thể của cá chốt sọc Mystus mysticetus Robert, 1992 phân bố trên tuyến sông Hậu từ Cần Thơ đến Sóc Trăng”) by Phan Quynh Thu (leader), Tran Ngoc Anh, and Vo Thi Thao Lam under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Minh Quang - School of Education, CTU.

Deputy Minister of MOET, Nguyen Van Phuc, and Comrade Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Youth Union, presented a Certificate of Merit and the Creative Youth Badge to students who achieved first prize in the field of Agricultural Science

* Second prize: The research project titled "Morphological and genetic variation of earthworm species belonging to the houlleti group in Vietnam" (Vietnamese: “Khảo sát biến dị hình thái và di truyền của các loài giun đất thuộc nhóm houlleti ở Việt Nam”) by Ly Van Vuong (leader), Trang Thi Nhu Y, Pham Dinh Nghi, Vo Thi Quynh Nhu, Le Minh Tri Thien under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - School of Education, CTU.

The Organizing Committee awarded the Certificate of Merit to students who won second prize in the field of Natural Sciences

* Second prize: The research project titled "Isolation and selection of bacterial strains with antibacterial, antifungal, and growth-promoting capabilities from soil and roots of Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees" (Vietnamese: “Phân lập và tuyển chọn một số dòng vi khuẩn có khả năng kháng khuẩn, kháng nấm và kích thích sinh trưởng từ đất và rễ cây Xuyên tâm liên Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees”) by Ta Hong Tham (leader), Nguyen Thi Yen Linh, Le Ngoc Tram, Nguyen Thi Huyen Tran under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoi Nghia - College of Agriculture, CTU.

 Awarding the Certificate of Merit to the group of students who won second prize in the field of Agricultural Sciences

 * Second prize: The research project titled "Status and solutions for conservation and development of tourism at the Ky Yen Festival in Binh Thuy Communal House, Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City" (Vietnamese: “Thực trạng và giải pháp bảo tồn và phát triển du lịch tại lễ hội Kỳ Yên ở Đình Bình Thủy, quận Bình Thủy, thành phố Cần Thơ”) by Nguyen Minh Tri (leader), Nguyen Ngoc Bao Chau, Nguyen Nhu Quynh under the guidance of Master Le Thi To Quyen - School of Social Sciences and Humanities, CTU.

Awarding the Certificate of Merit to the group of students who won second prize in the field of Social Sciences  

* Second prize: The research project titled "Study on starch from the rind of durian fruit (Durio zibethinus Murr.) Ri6 variety and its application prospects in food processing" (Vietnamese: “Nghiên cứu tinh bột từ vỏ quả sầu riêng (Durio zibethinus Murr.) giống Ri6 và định hướng ứng dụng trong chế biến thực phẩm”) conducted by the student group led by Pham Hoang Phong (Project leader), Ngo Thi My Lam, Huynh Le Xuan Ai under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Truc - Vice Dean of the School of Graduate, CTU.

Awarding the Certificate of Merit to the group of students who won second prize in the field of Science and Technology

With the achievements obtained from the Science and Technology Awards for students in higher education institutions in 2023, along with student support activities, Department of Research Affairs, CTU is one of the 14 units to receive a Certificate of Merit by the MOET for outstanding performance in organizing student scientific research activities in 2023.

The Science and Technology Awards for students in higher education institutions in 2023 aim to recognize outstanding achievements and encourage students to participate in scientific research, contributing to the improvement of training quality and nurturing young scientific talents in higher education institutions. The accomplishments attained have contributed to the enhancement of student scientific research activities in higher education institutions, motivating students to unleash their dynamic and creative potential in learning and scientific research.
