Since 2022, Can Tho University (CTU) has been entrusted by the Government to lead and coordinate with domestic and international partners to implement and organize the Forum on Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta - Outlook 2045 (SDMD 2045). SDMD 2045 aims to connect stakeholders, propose orientations, and promote cooperation to build and implement practical programs and projects for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in the new context of international integration.

On June 28th, 2024, Can Tho University (CTU) organized the 10th quarterly SDMD dialogue themed "Public Healthcare - Foundation for Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta". The dialogue took place at the Administration Building, CTU, and was live-streamed on the CTU Fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/CTUDHCT), the SDMD 2045 Fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/sdmd2045), and via Zoom meetings.
Attending the dialogue were Prof. Tanaka Yuji, Chief Advisor of the Technical Cooperation Project - Phase 2; Prof. Ang Hak Seng, Director Centre of Excellence for Social Good, Singapore University of Social Sciences; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Phuong, Chairwoman of the University Council, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Le An, Director of the Family Doctor Center, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City; managers, scientists from international organizations, local departments, and agencies; domestic institutes, universities, businesses, associations, and delegates participating online via various platforms.
At CTU’s side were Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Former Rector and head of the SDMD 2045 Steering Committee; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Chi Ngon, Vice Chairman of the University Council, and leaders, former leaders, staff, and students of CTU’s units.
The Mekong Delta plays a crucial role in economic development and ensuring food security, and it is considered a hub of diverse and abundant agricultural supplies. Additionally, people are a valuable asset and the driving force for the industrialization and modernization of the country. Therefore, the Party and the Government always pay attention to caring for, protecting, and improving the health of the entire society, so that everyone can live a prosperous and happy life, fully realizing their potential and contributing to the country's overall development.

In his opening speech at the dialogue, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan shared: “Protecting, caring for, and improving the health of the people has become a key task of the Party and the Government. Accordingly, the upcoming tasks need to focus on developing sports, enhancing physical and mental health, improving stature, life expectancy, and quality of life; protecting and caring for maternal and child health; and ensuring the quantity and quality of the population structure. Additionally, the Government has approved the national strategy for protecting, caring for, and improving people's health by 2030, with an outlook to 2045, aiming for every citizen to receive quality healthcare services; live in a safe community; and develop well physically and mentally, contributing to improving the quality of life and human resources for national construction and defense.”
The 10th quarterly SDMD dialogue 2024 included two main parts: (1) presentations on topics such as Training human resources to meet the needs of community healthcare development in the Mekong Delta; Nutrition in Public Health; Family Healthcare; Co-creation and co-delivery in population health: For the people, by the people, and (2) discussions on topics like Education and development of physical education – the foundation for public health; Role of Women in Community Health Care; School Health; Health Insurance in public healthcare; Laser Acupuncture with Intelligent Health Care; Environment and public health. The dialogue aimed to connect stakeholders domestically and internationally, propose orientations and solutions, and promote cooperation to implement practical programs and projects for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta.

The 10th quarterly SDMD dialogue 2024 connected and shared information on the current status, potential, challenges, and proposed solutions for connection and cooperation on the theme: 'Public Healthcare - Foundation for Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta.' The shared information serves as theoretical and practical support for developing guidelines, strategies, and policies for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta with an outlook to 2045.
Closing the dialogue, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan committed that all presentations and contributions from delegates at the seminar would be compiled, synthesized, and sent to relevant agencies, organizations, businesses, and the Government to continuously improve the quality of health and life for the people in the Mekong Delta. .
