Quarterly Online SDMD Dialogue on “Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Driving force for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta

On June 16th, 2023, Can Tho University (CTU) organized the quarterly online dialogue on “Science, Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Driving force for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta” in the framework of the Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta Forum (SDMD 2045).

The dialogue took place at the Administration Building, CTU, and was live-streamed on CTU Fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/CTUDHCT), SDMD 2045 Fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/sdmd2045), and Zoom meetings.

The Dialogue attracted managers, experts from national and international organizations, agencies and departments of provinces and cities; institutes, universities, and businesses across the country.

In order to implement guidelines, resolutions, policies and programs of action on the development of the Mekong Delta, within the framework of Sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, outlook 2045 - SDMD 2045, Can Tho University in collaboration with its partners periodically organizes quarterly dialogues.

Sending an opening remark, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU, emphasized that science and technology, innovation and entrepreneurship promote the development of businesses and community, are important resources in the future development of the region and the whole country, especially in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. International experiences have proven that in the current trend of integration and development, entrepreneurship and business establishment are important driving forces of the economy, contributing to solving global difficulties and challenges as well as towards the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in particular and the country in general.

Speaking at the dialogue, Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment appreciated CTU's contribution to initiating and chairing the SDMD 2045 Forum. After 57 years of establishment and development, CTU has always been a pioneer in cooperation, human resource training, scientific research, technology development, and community services, and plays an important role in socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region. CTU has performed its role, influence and expansion of its interest in the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta. The topic of the dialogue showed great expectation to approach the global trend in cooperation, promotion of science and technology, entrepreneurship, innovation and development in the region and the whole country.

The contents of the dialogue focused on scientific research, technology transfer and innovation - the role of stakeholders in cooperation and development of the Mekong Delta; national vision, orientation and innovation solutions; motivation and activities of innovation and entrepreneurship; innovation and youth entrepreneurship - future vision; science and technology, innovation and entrepreneurship - the driving force for sustainable development.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Nguyen Doan Khoi, CTU, presented on “Scientific research, technology transfer, and innovation – The role of stakeholders in collaboration and development of the Mekong Delta”

Mr. Do Tien Thinh, National Innovation Center, Ministry of Planning and Investment, informed the attendants with “Vision, orientations, and solutions for national innovation”

Mr. Mai Thanh Nghi, Department of Planning and Investment, Dong Thap province, shared the content of Motivation and activities for innovation and entrepreneurship – The driving force for sustainable development”

Dr. Jared Schoepf, Arizona State University, USA, joined the Dialogue with “Innovation and start-up for students and youth - Toward future vision”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Nguyen Minh, CSIRO - Australia, presented on “Science, technology, innovation and entrepreneership - The driving force for sustainable development”

Mr. Le Nhat Quang, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh city, shared the content on “connecting institutes, universities and businesses in innovation and entrepreneurship”

Mr. Tran Hoang Tuyen, Business Studies and Assistance Center, informed the current state and potential of agriculture start-ups

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong Linh, VCCI Can Tho shared the content “Vietnamese enterprises on the way of innovation, start-up and development”

Dr. Nguyen Thanh My, Rynan Technologies Vietnam Joint Stock Company, shared experiences on “Innovation and intellectual property in entrepreneurship and business development”

Mr. Ho Quang Cua, Private enterprise Ho Quang Tri, shared the content "from the aspirations for innovation to successful business development"

Within the framework of the dialogue, CTU was honored to sign memoranda of understanding (MOU) with the National Innovation Center (NIC), VCCI Can Tho, and Rynan Technologies Vietnam Joint Stock Company, in order to optimize the potential of the parties, towards serving the community more effectively. With the vision and mission of the units, the cooperation had great meaning in promoting the resources of the parties, contributing to developing the innovation and start-up ecosystem of the Mekong Delta region in particular and the country in general.

The SDMD dialogue has created conditions for stakeholders to share and receive valuable experience, good lessons to best support the innovative startup ecosystem to contribute more positively to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta. SDMD 2045 Forum is increasingly promoting its effectiveness, serving as an effective bridge for cooperation and sustainable development programs in the region and the whole country.
