Minister of Education and Training visiting Can Tho University

On February 06th, 2017, Can Tho University (CTU) was honored and delighted to welcome the delegation of Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) led by Minister Phung Xuan Nha, to pay a visit and work with CTU. Warmly receiving the Minister and the delegation at CTU’s side were the Rectorate Board, leaders of CTU’s units. Attending the meeting were also leader representatives of Department of Propaganda and Training of Can Tho city Communist Party Committee and Department of Education and Training of Can Tho city.

At the meeting, leaders of CTU briefly reported the status of CTU’s operations in recent years, the advantages and difficulties, and strategic plan for development direction of the University in the near future. On that basis, CTU’s leaders proposed suggestions and recommendations aiming at facilitating the implementation of development goals of CTU in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general. Accordingly, it is purposeful to strengthen the provision of high-quality human resources, scientific research and technology transfer serving the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region in the context of global integration and adaptation to climate change and sea level rise.

Minister Phung Xuan Nha highly recognized and appreciated the contributions of CTU, he said: "Can Tho University is one of the best higher education institutions in Vietnam education system. Over the past years, it has showed that the University plays a significant role in the development of human resources for the Mekong Delta region. It is obvious that the investment for Can Tho University is strengthening the education and training center for human resources development for the region and country".

 

The Minister expressed the support and consensus for the recommendations and proposals of CTU for the investment and development of the University and the region in the coming time. At the same time, Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha encouraged CTU’s staff to make greater efforts to achieve more success by focusing on several activities such as accelerating the establishing of autonomy proposal; investigating the demand of the human resources for the localities, then, structuring training programs and initiatively proposing the programs to meet the social needs of labor; strengthening international linkages, technology transfer and exchanges with strong partners all over the world.    

 

In teacher training sector, the Minister agreed on the investment of strengthening School of Education of CTU to become one of the key centers of training and fostering teachers and conducting scientific research on education for the region; simultaneously, gradually raising the quality of the Teacher Practice High School of CTU aiming to build an international high school in the Mekong Delta region.

 

In the field of science and technology, the Minister greatly appreciated the achievements of CTU compared with other universities and research institutes in Vietnam. Besides making good association with the localities, CTU has proved its potentials and experiences in international cooperation in many fields. In the future, the Minister suggested connecting the research programs to training programs; developing research groups and participating in national level research project like the study on climate change; accessing various sources for investment and upgrading facilities, laboratories,images.; especially paying attention to the work of quality assurance;images. 

 

The Minister believed that by developing the specific route for the development direction with a rich history, experiences and determination, solidarity, consensus of all staff members, CTU will maintain sustainable growth and leading position and increasingly affirm the prestigious brand in the region and on the world.

On behalf of all staff and students of CTU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector sincerely sent profound thanks to the attention and support of the MOET during the past 50 years. The visit of the Minister was really the great encouragement to all staff and students of CTU  to continue to fulfill the tasks in the new year. It is believed that with the attention and support, facilitation form the MOET, CTU will have more favorable conditions to carry out the objectives to develop the university becoming one of the top institutions in country and achieving international standards.
