Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam visiting Can Tho University

On August 25th, 2017, Can Tho University (CTU) honorably welcomed H.E.Mr. Kunio Umeda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam to visit the University. Receiving the Embassy’s delegation were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Viet Dung, Vice Rector and leader representatives of CTU’s units. The meeting was also attended by representatives from JICA Office in Vietnam and Yanmar Agricultural Research Institute in Vietnam.

At the meeting, Rector of CTU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Thanh Toan sent his warmest greeting to the Ambassador and the delegation, at the same time, summarized the cooperation and support of Japanese partners to CTU in recent years. Notably, Can Tho University Improvement Project, funded by the Government of Japan with a total capital of ¥ 10,456 million, was implemented in July 2015 and is expected to be completed in 2022. The project aims to develop CTU on a par with universities in the region and in the world, making a stronger and more effective contribution to the fast and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, contributing to the development of the whole country, and accompanying the advanced universities in the world. On the basis of the good cooperation relationship, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ha Thanh Toan wished Mr. Kunio Umeda to be an important bridge to promote the cooperation between the two sides in the future.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kunio Umeda gave sincere thanks for the warm welcome from CTU. He shared that CTU is one of the focal points in the cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. The Embassy of Japan to Vietnam has pledged to support CTU in Japanese language teaching for CTU students and to promote cooperation in the field of agriculture and training high quality human resources in the direction of Japan in enhancing technical cooperation and training of high quality human resources at CTU.
