Closing Ceremony of Japanese Course in 2017

On September 01st, 2017, Can Tho University (CTU) held the closing ceremony of Japanese course in the framework of Can Tho University improvement project. Attending the ceremony were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Vice Rector, Director of ODA Project Management Unit of CTU; Mr. Hiroyuki Kanzaki, representative of the joint venture of Nihon Sekkei, JICE, Earl Consultants and NAGECCO; leaders of CTU’s units and coursetakers.

Can Tho University Improvement Project with the objective of strengthening CTU to become excellent, internationally recognized university in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, environment and related fields, contributing to the socio-economic development, adaptation to climate change, environmental protection, increase of the value of agricultural and fishery products in the Mekong Delta. Also, the project will contribute to strengthening the capacity of CTU’s high-quality human resource training, the improvement of scientific research in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, environment and other fields. The project uses ODA loans from the Japanese Government with a total capital of 10,456 million yen and is implemented from July 2015 to December 2022.


The main components of the project include human resources development, implementation of joint research programs, facility construction, equipment procurement, and consulting services. For the human resources development component, 63 lecturers specialized in agriculture, fisheries, environment and related fields are taking doctoral training in Japan, and nine staff members are candidates for master programs in advanced higher education management. In addition, 91 lecturers and researchers are trained and take part in short-term research on advanced technology; operational methods, new methods of research; maintenance procedures and use of equipment, machinery, laboratories; and university management.

In 2017, CTU offered Japanese course for 21 candidates, of which 12 candidates are for doctoral programs and 9 candidates are for master programs. The course is aimed to provide the candidates with survival Japanese language training to maximize the outcomes of study in Japan. The course took place from June 5th to August 31st, 2017, with more than 160 hours of study with native teachers. At the end of the course, learners can obtain practical Japanese language skills including understanding Japanese culture and society. Besides, basic Japanese language skills will help them make relationships with Japanese people who can be partners for future collaboration in research and education.
