Summer School for Asia-Pacific Francophone Students in 2017

In 2017, Can Tho University (CTU) was chosen by Francophone University Association (AUF) to celebrate Summer School for Francophone students in the Asia-Pacific region with the participation of 85 students from India, Cambodia, Laos, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. On August 14^th, 2017 the opening ceremony of Francophone Summer School took place at the Great Hall of CTU.

The 2017 Summer School for Francophone students took place from August 13^th to 19^th, 2017 with the aim of creating a useful playground with attractive activities related to life, culture and people of the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho city in particular. This is an opportunity for students who love French language to improve their ability of foreign languages, exchange knowledge, experience, and expand their relationships. At the same time, it helps international students deeply understand the culture and people of Vietnam.

In the opening remarks, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Van Xe, Vice Rector of CTU, said that CTU was a member of AUF since its establishment in Vietnam in 1993. Both sides have had extensive cooperation activities in the fields of training, research and publication in French. The hosting of the Francophone Summer School in 2017 is a meaningful activity, facilitating access and cooperation with French language partners. CTU is especially interested in strengthening linkages with businesses to improve the quality of training, in line with the demand of the society, thereby to enhance the student’s ability to satisfy work’s requirements. This is the basis for the implementation of the strategic orientation of building high-quality training programs in Tourism French with the participation of tourism enterprises in the training process.

Joining the Francophone Summer School in 2017, international students visit famous places in Can Tho such as Can Tho Museum, Muni Rangsay Pagoda, Buddhism Temple, Ong Pagoda, Can Tho Ancient Market, Long Tuyen Temple, Binh Thuy Ancient House, Cai Rang Floating Market, etc.; experience rural life through the activities such as cooking, baking, catching fish in pond, making handicrafts from clay, coconut leaves, and playing folk games; besides enjoy Vietnamese traditional music, setting fire camp, etc.

Francophone summer school is a unique initiative of AUF to promote cultural and linguistic exchanges among French language students in the region. In Can Tho city, the 2017 Summer School for Francophone students promises to be a meaningful event, bringing many benefits, opportunities for exchanges and memorable memories for the Francophone community.
