Discussion with JICA on the Progress of Can Tho University Improvement Project

On the morning of June 29^th, 2022, Can Tho University was honored to welcome the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and discuss on the progress of the JICA-CTU projects. Attending the meeting were Mr. Iwasaki Akihiro, Director of Higher Education and Social Security Group, JICA Headquarter; Ms. Inomata Mika,Special Advisor, Higher Education and Social Security Group, Human Development Department; Prof. Tanaka Yuji, Chief Advisor of Technical Cooperation Project - Phase 2 (TC2 Project); representatives of the consultants and contractors. Attending the meeting online were Mr. Murookoka Naomichi, Senior Representative of JICA Vietnam Office; Mr. Hirano Koji, Consultant. At CTU's side, there were Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Vice-Rector, Director of the ODA Project Management Unit; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice-Rector; representatives of the Coordination Committee in the fields of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment; members of the Project Management Unit.

At the meeting, representative of Consultant and the Project Management Unit briefly updated the progress and results of the Project, then, JICA Vietnam, the Project Management Unit, Consultant, and Contractors together evaluated, discussed, provided solutions and agreed on the activities in the coming time to ensure the implementation of the Project as planned, especially to ensure the inauguration of two construction works under the Project in October this year.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Murookoka Naomichi, Senior Representative of JICA Vietnam Office, shared that since the groundbreaking ceremony of important construction works including Hi-Tech Building and Research Laboratory Complex in November 2019, he appreciated the efforts of stakeholders, Can Tho University as well as the Project Management Unit to overcome difficulties in the pandemic situation. He hoped that from this discussion, all the parties would solve the problems, keep making efforts, and commit to complete the Project on schedule.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of Can Tho University, sent sincere thanks to JICA VIetnam, JICA Headquarters, the Consultant, especially the Contractors for their support to overcome all difficulties. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan expressed his pleasure that although TC1 Project ended, the University and related parties continued to prolong cooperation opportunities through TC2 Project. The Rector believed that with the constant efforts of Can Tho University and the support from stakeholders, Can Tho University Improvement Project will complete on schedule and achieve remarkable achievements, contributing to building a solid foundation for the long-term development of the University in the coming time.
