On December 2, 2025, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Rector of Can Tho University, together with representatives of relevant units, welcomed and held a working session with a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. The delegation was led by Ms. Yagihashi Fumiko, Deputy Director of the Food Security Office, Policy Planning Division, Minister’s Secretariat.

The meeting took place at Can Tho University’s Administration Building
During the meeting, the Japanese delegation discussed with Can Tho University the objectives and scope of their upcoming field study in Vietnam, titled Vietnam Rice Sector Field Survey. The survey focused on assessing the impacts of climate change, including salinity intrusion, and examined the transition toward high-quality, low-emission rice production models in line with sustainable agricultural practices and international standards. This research aimed to gain deeper insights into rice production, supply chains, trade activities, and policy implementation in the Mekong Delta region.

Can Tho University reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners in research and scientific assessments that contribute to sustainable regional development. The working session further strengthened the longstanding cooperation between Can Tho University and the Japanese Government and related organizations, while opening new prospects for collaboration in high-quality agriculture, food security, and climate change adaptation.
