Can Tho University Strengthens Multi-Sectoral Cooperation and Connectivity with Japanese Partners, Contributing to the Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta and the Nation

On February 14, 2025, Can Tho University (CTU) held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC., and Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd. This event marked an important milestone in the collaboration between the university - businesses - local authorities. The partnership aimed to foster connections in high-quality human resource training, scientific research, and technology transfer across multiple fields, generating practical benefits for the community and making a significant contribution to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta and the entire country.

The event was attended by Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, along with representatives from the Department of Planning and Investment. At CTU’s side were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - the Rector, along with Vice Rectors: Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Dr. Le Van Lam, and representatives from various units. Also in attendance were Mr. Furusawa Yasuyuki - Member of the Board of Executive Directors at AEON Group (Japan) in charge of the Vietnamese market and General Director of AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd.; Mr. Toshinao Tanaka - Chairman of TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC.; Mr. Noriyasu Onoma - General Director of Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd.; and representatives from the leadership of the Japanese partner companies.

The cooperation agreement signed between CTU and major enterprises, including AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC., and Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd., aims to promote scientific research and modern technology in food production and processing, establish an efficient agricultural supply chain, enhance agricultural value, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh affirmed that connecting and collaborating with businesses has always been a priority for CTU, demonstrated through various practical programs and activities

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh emphasized that CTU has a mission: to produce highly capable graduates based on a liberal education environment, conduct advanced research and technology transfers on contemporary themes, and contribute to social prosperity development. This mission is built on three pillars: (1) Providing high-quality, multidisciplinary education in a friendly and modern learning environment. (2) Conducting integrated, multidisciplinary research to create high-knowledge products that serve human resource development and respond to the evolving needs of the region, nation, and beyond. (3) Committing to community service through effective engagement of stakeholders, enhancing value through resource and benefit sharing mechanisms. These missions play a crucial role in the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta, a region with a strategic position in agriculture, aquaculture, and logistics, but also facing numerous challenges related to climate change and market demand. Therefore, strengthening the collaboration between universities, businesses, and local authorities is key to increasing product value, creating job opportunities for students, and making practical contributions to the region's overall development.

Mr. Toshinao Tanaka affirmed that TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC. and Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd. would intensify research projects with high applicability, contributing to enhancing the value of agricultural products

Mr. Toshinao Tanaka expressed his gratitude to CTU for its considerable support during the initial development phase of Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd. He affirmed that TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC. and Takesho Food Vietnam Co., Ltd. would actively support research and development activities in food products while expanding cooperation opportunities in food processing technology. The two companies will also intensify research projects with high applicability, enhancing the value of agricultural products and promoting sustainable development of the agricultural sector in the Mekong Delta region. Furthermore, TAKESHO FOOD & INGREDIENTS INC. hopes that, through cooperative projects, it can create development momentum and enhance the competitiveness of businesses in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region in the international market.

Representing AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd., Mr. Furusawa Yasuyuki conveyed his delight in having the opportunity to cooperate with CTU, contributing to the development of sectors such as education and training, agriculture, commerce, and food. Currently, the AEON Group has over 10 member companies investing in various fields in Vietnam with more than 200 commercial products. The General Director of AEON Vietnam Co., Ltd. expressed his hope for collaborations combining Vietnamese resources and agricultural products with Japanese processing and production techniques. Thereby launching various products that cater to the needs of the Vietnamese people and leveraging the AEON MALL network for export to other Asian countries.

The signing ceremony not only reflected the spirit of cooperation and joint efforts between CTU and its Japanese partners but also demonstrated the attention and guidance of the Can Tho City Party Committee and People's Committee. This milestone underscored CTU's commitment to advancing high-quality human resource training, applying science and technology, and strengthening linkages in commerce, food, and agriculture with domestic and international enterprises. The collaboration served as a catalyst for students to gain practical knowledge, enhancing the university’s training quality. Furthermore, it laid the foundation for expanding future cooperation programs, ensuring sustainable and long-term development in the Mekong Delta and Vietnam's economic, cultural, and social activities, ultimately striving for shared prosperity in the region.
