Can Tho University Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Monash University

On June 4, 2025, Can Tho University (CTU) held a working session and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University (Australia). Attending the ceremony were Prof. Sarah McDonald - Vice Chancellor of Monash University, and her delegation. Representing CTU were Dr. Le Van Lam – Vice Rector, and leaders from various units.

According to the signed agreement, both universities agreed to establish a collaborative relationship in education and research, focusing on faculty and student exchanges, as well as the sharing of scientific publications and academic resources. CTU and Monash University also committed to jointly implementing research initiatives and organizing academic conferences. During the session, the two universities further discussed student field trips and learning activities related to climate change and sustainable environmental development in 2025.

Welcoming the delegation from Monash University, Dr. Le Van Lam emphasized the role of CTU in its mission as a key center for education, scientific research, and technology transfer in the Mekong Delta. The Vice Rector of CTU affirmed that the signing of the cooperation agreement with Monash University would open up numerous opportunities for both sides to develop research projects, jointly address global challenges in the context of climate change, and especially contribute to enhancing academic activities.

In her speech, Prof. Sarah McDonald shared that Monash University, with its strengths in applied research and global connections, aims to establish a comprehensive cooperative relationship with CTU. This partnership is expected to foster academic exchange programs and interdisciplinary research. The Vice Chancellor also expressed her hope that the two universities would build a cohesive academic community that generates positive value for local communities.

CTU has signed 37 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 23 Australian enterprises and universities. To date, 135 CTU lecturers have completed training programs in Australia, including 75 lecturers who completed Master’s programs and 59 who completed Doctoral programs. Additionally, around 150 CTU staff, lecturers, and students have participated in short-term exchange programs, academic activities, and specialized workshops. CTU and its Australian partners have also implemented numerous research projects and programs, primarily in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture, and environmental science.

It contributes to the enhancement of academic quality and research capacity while creating more opportunities for scholarly exchange and educational advancement for both faculty and students in the future.
