On October 3rd, 2024, Can Tho University (CTU) signed a Letter of Intent with Niigata University and Takesho Food Vietnam Co. Ltd. in Niigata Prefecture, Japan, to launch the “Kome Innovation Co-creation Project”. This project aimed to contribute to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region and Niigata Prefecture. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Ushiki Tatsuo, President of Niigata University; Mr. Toshinao Tanaka, Chairman of Takesho Food Vietnam Co. Ltd. and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of CTU.

Previously, CTU, Niigata University, and Takesho Food Vietnam Co. Ltd. collaborated on research and development programs in education, agriculture, and food. The “Kome Innovation Co-creation Project” focused on researching high-quality rice varieties and applying advanced technologies to mitigate the effects of climate change, ensure food security, and promote sustainable development in agriculture and aquaculture in the Mekong Delta region and Niigata Prefecture.

At the signing ceremony, Prof. Ushiki Tatsuo emphasized: “The Mekong Delta region and Niigata Prefecture shared a common bond as major rice production centers, and both of our universities played a crucial role in the development of our respective regions. I believe that collaborating on research and sharing information on issues of mutual interest was highly meaningful.”
The collaboration between CTU, Niigata University, and Takesho Food Vietnam Co. Ltd. extended beyond research and project implementation to focus on improving education quality. The partners organized student exchange programs, training courses, and internships to enhance the professional skills of students.

Niigata University and Takesho Food Vietnam Co. Ltd. aimed to strengthen their connections, support development, and deepen their partnership with CTU through this project. The three entities planned to continue promoting research activities, product development, and technology transfer while enhancing student and teaching staff engagement activities. The common goal was to contribute to building sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security, and effectively responding to climate change for both regions.
With the goal of becoming a reputable and high-quality educational institution, CTU continuously expanded its international cooperation network. The signing ceremony opened up new opportunities for students and teaching staff to access advanced knowledge and technology from Japan. CTU reaffirmed its pioneering position in creating a dynamic, innovative, and sustainable cooperation environment with domestic and international partners..
