Can Tho University Expands Cooperation with Taiwanese Institutions: Connecting Knowledge, Advancing Education, and Promoting International Integration

In the context of increasingly profound internationalization in education, expanding cooperation with global educational institutions not only contributes to enhancing the quality of education and scientific research, but also creates broader opportunities for academic exchange, cultural connection, and the development of high-quality human resources in an era of global integration. With this vision, on May 21, 2026, Can Tho University (CTU) organized a reception and signing ceremony for Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with universities and high schools from Taiwan.

Attending the program were Prof. Wei-Chih Lin - Education Counselor of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Hung-Jung Tsai - Rector of WuFeng University; Prof. Ming-Chih Chen - Rector of National Taitung University Affiliated Physical Education Senior High School; along with leaders and faculty representatives from Taiwanese partners. Representing CTU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - Rector; Dr. Le Van Lam - Vice Rector; along with representatives of relevant units.

The meeting took place at CTU’s Administration Building

In his remarks at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh warmly welcomed the delegations from WuFeng University and National Taitung University Affiliated Physical Education Senior High School to CTU. He emphasized that over the past 20 years, the cooperative relationship between CTU and Taiwanese partners has continued to grow and strengthen, particularly through the active support and connections facilitated by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City. To date, CTU has signed 62 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with Taiwanese universities, enterprises, and organizations, creating a solid foundation for academic exchange, training, and scientific research activities between the two sides.

The Rector of CTU also shared that many young lecturers of the University had pursued study and research opportunities in Taiwan and, upon returning, had become highly qualified faculty members and professionals, contributing significantly to the development of both the University and the Mekong Delta region. Currently, approximately 10% of CTU’s lecturers received education or professional training in Taiwan, and this number is expected to continue increasing in the future, becoming an important advantage for further strengthening the University’s international cooperation activities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh expressed his delight in welcoming the Taiwanese educational leaders to CTU and hoped to further strengthen educational cooperation and connectivity in the future

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Hung-Jung Tsai expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to visit and hold discussions with CTU and participate in the signing ceremony. The Rector of WuFeng University shared that the University currently has around 900 Vietnamese students studying in various programs, many of whom are enthusiastic about sports activities and cultural exchange. Prof. Hung-Jung Tsai hoped that through sports activities, academic exchange, and student mobility programs, both sides would have more opportunities to connect and deepen mutual understanding. He also expressed his expectation that following the signing ceremony, the two institutions would further expand practical cooperation programs in education, sports, and cultural exchange, thereby strengthening friendship and ties between the two universities.

On this occasion, Prof. Hung-Jung Tsai respectfully invited CTU to participate in cultural and sports exchange activities as well as cooperation programs in Taiwan in the near future

To promote academic exchange and cultural interaction on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, CTU and WuFeng University agreed to officially establish a cooperative relationship through activities such as faculty and student exchange; sharing academic publications and information; jointly organizing scientific research, conferences, and specialized seminars; and implementing cooperation programs aimed at enhancing academic exchange, improving educational quality, and strengthening international academic collaboration between the two institutions in the new development stage.

Meanwhile, the CTU Elite High School and National Taitung University Affiliated Physical Education Senior High School agreed to establish a partnership based on friendship, equality, and mutual development. The cooperation focuses on exchanging teaching experiences, promoting student exchange activities, sharing educational materials and academic information, and jointly organizing research activities, thematic seminars, study visits, and cultural exchange programs. These initiatives are expected to contribute to improving educational quality while strengthening understanding and connections between students and teachers of both institutions.

Through these cooperation programs, CTU students will have greater opportunities to access international learning environments, participate in academic and cultural exchange activities, and develop skills in multicultural settings. At the same time, collaboration with high school partners also opens new directions for internationally oriented secondary education, contributing to the development of foreign language proficiency, global competencies, and an international mindset for students from an early stage.

During the meeting, delegates exchanged ideas and discussed potential cooperation orientations, while expressing their expectations that the partnerships among the institutions would continue to develop in a sustainable, effective, and practical manner in the future

The continued expansion of cooperation with Taiwanese universities and high schools further reaffirmed CTU’s pioneering role in advancing the internationalization of education in the Mekong Delta region. More than partnerships between educational institutions, these collaborations serve as bridges for knowledge exchange, cultural understanding, and shared aspirations for sustainable development. Through these meaningful connections, CTU continues to foster a modern, humanistic, and globally integrated academic environment where learners are empowered with the knowledge, skills, and global mindset needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
