Amid the increasingly dynamic global landscape of cooperation in education, science, and technology, Can Tho University (CTU) has continued to affirm its role as a key academic hub for the Mekong Delta through the expansion of its international partnership network.
Building upon the fruitful collaborations achieved over recent years, on May 14, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - Rector of CTU, welcomed and met with Dr. Vipra Pandey - Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City. Also attending the meeting were Dr. Le Van Lam - Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Chau - Former Director of the Southern Horticultural Research Institute; together with representatives of the University’s affiliated units.

During the meeting, both sides discussed various potential areas for cooperation, particularly in high-tech agriculture, information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, engineering, and digital transformation. The discussions focused on strengthening academic linkages between Indian universities and research institutes and CTU, promoting short-term training programs, credit transfer initiatives, student and faculty exchanges, and expanding applied research collaboration in support of the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region.

In his welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh highly appreciated the effective cooperation between CTU and Indian partners over the years. One of the most notable collaborative achievements has been the long-standing partnership between the CTU Software Center (CUSC) and Aptech Limited. As of April 2026, the program had trained 7,098 learners in fields such as software engineering, multimedia design, system administration, and intelligent data analytics. Many graduates are currently working for leading technology enterprises both in Vietnam and abroad, contributing significantly to digital transformation and the development of high-quality technological human resources for the region.

In the field of research and sustainable development, from 2023 to the present, CTU and Indian partners have jointly implemented five collaborative projects with a total budget exceeding VND 3.7 billion, focusing on smart agriculture, environmental sustainability, and greenhouse gas emission reduction in agricultural production. Notable initiatives include projects on the application of bio-products in rice cultivation to reduce emissions in the Mekong Delta, as well as smart agriculture training programs for Indian students. In addition, CTU has successfully organized Tropical Semester programs for Indian universities, attracting more than 100 students and doctoral researchers from various higher education institutions. The programs focused on climate-smart agriculture, IoT applications in agriculture, agricultural technology, and sustainable agricultural development.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Vipra Pandey expressed his appreciation for the achievements and strategic development orientation of CTU, while acknowledging the substantial outcomes of cooperation between the University and Indian partners in recent years. The Consul General affirmed his commitment to further supporting bilateral cooperation activities, particularly in student exchange programs, credit transfer initiatives, short-term training programs, undergraduate and postgraduate education, as well as cooperation in agriculture, biotechnology, engineering, and the training of high-quality specialists.

Within the framework of the meeting, CTU proposed that the Consulate General of India continue supporting the University in expanding partnerships with Indian universities, research institutes, and technology enterprises, particularly in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, smart agriculture, environmental research, and digital transformation. At the same time, the University expressed its desire to further strengthen collaborative research programs on sustainable development in the Mekong Delta, especially in climate-smart agriculture, environmental sustainability, and digital technology applications in agriculture, while also promoting language and cultural exchange activities between students and faculty members of both sides.
