On November 14, 2024, Can Tho University (CTU) held a working session with Mr. Tran Viet Truong - Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, to discuss preparations for the International Symposium on Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta 2024. The delegation from CTU, led by Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice Rector, along with representatives from relevant units, attended the session.

At the working session, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai presented the progress of preparations for SDMD 2024 up to the present. Specifically, CTU is fully prepared for all organizational tasks, including developing presentation content and implementing supporting activities for the symposium. He emphasized that CTU would make practical contributions, based on scientific research and practical solutions, to help address challenges related to sustainable development in the Mekong Delta region.

During the working session, Mr. Tran Viet Truong highly appreciated the role of CTU in proposing appropriate solutions for the sustainable development of Can Tho City in particular, and the Mekong Delta region in general. The Can Tho City People's Committee committed to working closely with CTU to successfully organize SDMD 2024 and hopes that this will be an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas, discuss, and propose strategic solutions to help the region advance industrialization, modernization, and improve the quality of life for the people.

This year, SDMD 2024 will be held at the Sheraton Hotel (30/4 Street, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, Vietnam) on Friday and Saturday, November 29–30, 2024, with the participation of over 400 domestic and international experts and scientists. The symposium will feature eight main reports centered on the theme "Industrialization and Modernization: Driving Forces for Sustainable Development in the Mekong Delta," presented in both in-person and online formats (live-streamed on CTU’s and SDMD 2045’s social media platforms).
CTU will continue to accompany the development of the Mekong Delta region, actively contributing to initiatives and action programs aimed at a sustainable and prosperous future for the area. With the goal of connecting, providing, and sharing information about the current status, potential, challenges, and proposing solutions to develop key sectors of the Mekong Delta with stakeholders, the SDMD 2045 Forum is organized to enhance cooperation, build, and implement research programs and application projects, contributing to the region’s socio-economic and environmental development. It will also provide strategic direction and policy guidance for sustainable development through to 2045.
