10 highlights of Can Tho University in 2023

2023 has passed, Can Tho University has another year to transform and develop. Let's look back at the University’s achievements and milestones in 2023.

On October 14th, 2023, the Can Tho City National Assembly Delegation had a meeting with voters. The meeting took place at the Turtle Hall of CTU. On this occasion, CTU staff and students had the opportunity to directly meet, discuss, and express their thoughts and aspirations to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

On February 27th, 2023, the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister, paid a visit to CTU. The Minister expected that “Can Tho University needs to develop at a faster pace, aiming for the vision of not only being the leading university in the Mekong Delta and the country but also being the top among the leading higher education institutions in Asia”.

On December 28th, 2023, the Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son signed a Decision on the recognition of CTU’s Rector. Accordingly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh was appointed CTU’s Rector for the term 2020 - 2025.

Strengthening quality assurance and accreditation activities

In 2023, Can Tho University will have completed and achieved the "Certificate of Institutional Accreditation, Cycle II". In addition, Can Tho University has 8 more programs that have achieved certification in education quality accreditation according to AUN-QA standards and 11 programs that have achieved education accreditation certification in training programs according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In 2023, CTU received the Certificate of Institutional Accreditation (2nd cycle) from the VNU-HCM Center for Education Accreditation for meeting the education accreditation standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. This result marked an important milestone in the journey of quality assurance and accreditation of CTU.

In addition, this year, the University has 8 more programs that were recognized to meet AUN-QA standards, and 11 programs were recognized to meet the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Can Tho University has 4 more professors and 21 associate professors

On November 20th, 2023, the State Council for Professorship issued Decision No. 80/QD-HDGSNN giving the recognition for professor and associate professor in 2023. Accordingly, there are 58 professors and 572 associate professors recognized. Can Tho University CTU is pleased to have 4 professors (including 3 full-time lecturers and 1 visiting lecturer) and 21 associate professors recognized.

With the addition of these 25 newly recognized professors and associate professors, up to now, CTU has 200 professors and associate professors (21 professors and 179 associate professors). This is a strong testament to CTU's commitment to training and developing an excellent faculty. Through this, the quality of education and research at CTU continues to improve, asserting its role and position as a key institution for higher education, scientific research, and technology transfer serving the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region and the country as a whole.

SDMD 2045 Forum continuing promoting its role through quarterly online dialogues

In 2023, within the framework of the SDMD 2045 Forum, quarterly online dialogues continue to take place with over 2.000 participants from domestic and international organizations, departments, and agencies. SDMD dialogues themed on current issues create opportunities for managers, experts, scientists, entrepreneurs, and businesses to report the current situation, share experiences, and discuss feasible solutions for the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta region.

In 2023, CTU staff and students have had proud achievements.

Honored teacher, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Thuy from the Institute of Food and Biotechnology was honored at the “Vietnam Glory” program. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Trong Phuoc from the College of Engineering received the “Golden Globe Science and Technology Award”.

In 2023, CTU students impressively won 11 medals in SEA Games 2023. Three students were awarded the Vietnamese Female Science and Technology Student Award 2023. Besides the first prize in the 25th National Student Physics Olympiad, 3 first prizes and more at the 32th Vietnam Student Olympiad in Informatics.

CTU is delighted to have people who always strive, effort, and continuously contribute to fulfilling its mission of education and training. This once again affirms that “Staff and students are the most valuable assets of Can Tho University”.

Can Tho University - The successful host of international conferences

In 2023, noticeable international conferences took place at CTU that brought a wide range of attendants together to share knowledge, expertise, and practices. Several most prominent conferences are the first International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Data Science (ISDS 2023), the first International Conference on BioProtection for Sustainable Agriculture (ICBPSA23); the International Food Animal Conference (IFAC 2023), the 3rd International Conference on Geography and Geoinformatics for Sustainable Development (ICGGS 2023), the 19th International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering (ICCEE 2023).

Through major science and technology events regularly held at Can Tho University. Those affirm that “Can Tho University is the education and research hub for exchanging, creating, and enhancing knowledge, culture, science, and technology, making a positive impact on sustainable developments”.

Celebrating Commemorative Milestones of Can Tho University’s Units

College of Agriculture celebrating the 55th anniversary of establishment (1968-2023)

For more than half a century, the College of Agriculture has become one of the leading units in the training of quality human resources, research, and application of scientific and technological achievements in the field of agriculture for the Mekong Delta region and the country. Throughout 55 years of development in the agricultural industry, the College of Agriculture has always been closely associated with farmers in the Mekong Delta, constantly accompanying and supporting them to solve difficulties and issues in agriculture; improve the productivity of crops and quality of agricultural products; transfer advanced farming techniques; guide pest control, crop protection; and develop quality varieties.

College of Environment and Natural Resources celebrating the 15th anniversary of establishment (2008-2023)

The College of Environment and Natural Resources (CENRes) is gradually progressing, with outstanding achievements to be worthy of being an important unit in training and in-depth research in the field of environment. Over the past 15 years, the CENRes has trained 9,268 bachelors, 884 masters, and 35 PhDs. Currently, graduates from the CENRes are playing important roles in contributing to the management, use, and protection of the environment in the Mekong Delta and the country.

Research Institute for Climate Change celebrating the 15th anniversary of establishment (2008 - 2023)

After 15 years of establishment and development, the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong Institute) has always focused on working closely with communities, localities, governments at all levels, and businesses to understand and solve issues caused by climate change in the Mekong Delta in particular and the country in general. DRAGON-Mekong Institute has been proactively expanding its connection network through both domestic and international partnerships. The Institute has gradually affirmed its position in climate change research, with important contributions to relevant policies in the region. In its development strategy, it is believed that the DRAGON-Mekong Institute fosters its role as a leading research center in the region, remarkably contributing to finding solutions for coping with climate change issues toward the sustainable development of the region

Enhancement of international academic exchange activities

In 2023, CTU welcomed a wide range of student delegations, more than 300 international students from India, the Philippines, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania to share knowledge and do research. At the same time, CTU students also were made a condition for participation in academic exchange programs in countries around the world.
