Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh became the Rector of Can Tho University

On December 28, 2023, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son signed Decision No. 4588/QD-BGDDT on recognizing the Rector of Can Tho University (CTU). Accordingly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh became the Rector of CTU for the term 2020 - 2025.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh graduated from CTU in 1997, received a master's degree in 2004 and a doctorate in 2007 at Gyeongsang National University, Korea. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh qualified for the title of Associate Professor in Electricity in 2013.

At CTU, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tinh started teaching at the College of Engineering (from 1998 to 2007), became the Head of the Department of the Faculty of Technology (from 2007 to 2009), the Vice-Dean of the College of Engineering (from 2010 to 2012), The Vice-Rector of CTU from June 2012 to December 2023.

Since November 2015, as the role of the Director of the ODA Project Management Unit - Can Tho University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh made many outstanding contributions to the success of the CTU Improvement Project using loans from the Japanese Government.

According to the statistics up to December 2023, CTU has an enrollment of about 54.000 undergraduate students; 3.000 students have been following Master's programs; and around 300 students are Ph.D. candidates. CTU has got over 2.000 staff members including nearly 1.200 teaching staff and 800 supporting staff. From a university with a few fields of study at the beginning, it has developed into a multidisciplinary university. Currently, it has nearly 100 undergraduates, 36 Master's, and 15 Doctoral training programs. Every year CTU receives students in internship programs from the U.S., Belgium, Japan, and so on, or under agreements between their universities and CTU.

Now, The Rector Board of CTU including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh (The Rector); Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai (The Vice-Rector) is responsible for scientific research, international cooperation, and project management; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hieu Trung (The Vice-Rector) is responsible for the university’s facilities, quality management, and information technology.
