On November 19, 2024, Can Tho University (CTU) held a meeting with a delegation from Gyeongsang National University (GNU) - South Korea), led by Prof. Oh Jaesin - Vice President of GNU. The delegation was welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - Rector of CTU, along with representatives from relevant units.

During the meeting, the two institutions discussed and outlined directions for collaboration in various fields, including life sciences, health sciences, semiconductor technology, emerging technologies, agriculture, foreign languages, and aquaculture. Notably, they emphasized programs for student and faculty exchanges to enhance training and research quality and foster cultural and academic exchanges between the two countries. Additionally, CTU and GNU expressed their desire to collaborate on short-term courses, dual-degree program development, and other academic activities for students from both institutions.

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh shared that CTU currently has nearly 40,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, supported by 1,889 staff members, including 1,075 lecturers, 612 of whom hold doctoral degrees (a Ph.D. rate of 56.9%, significantly higher than the national average of 33%). The Rector also highlighted that in the 2024-2025 QS-Quacquarelli Symonds rankings, CTU was ranked 521-540 in Asia (an improvement of 160 places) and 90 in Southeast Asia (an improvement of 17 places). These achievements affirm CTU’s strong position within Vietnam’s higher education system and the region.

During the meeting, Prof. Oh Jaesin expressed his hopes for enhanced collaboration between GNU and CTU through joint projects. These initiatives aim to provide opportunities for CTU’s learners and young teaching staff to study and train at GNU, further advancing their professional knowledge and developing essential skills. He emphasized that this partnership would not only contribute to improved education quality but also lay a foundation for a long-lasting friendship between the two universities.
