VietTESOL International Convention 2025 - Innovating ELT: Sustainability and Global Readiness

From August 28 to 30, 2025, Can Tho University (CTU), in collaboration with the National Foreign Languages Project – Ministry of Education and Training, and the VietTESOL Association, co-organized the VietTESOL International Convention 2025 with the theme “Innovating ELT: Sustainability and Global Readiness” The VietTESOL International Convention was held with the aim of connecting researchers, lecturers, teachers, and those interested in English language education. It was also a festival where inspiring stories, practical experiences, and valuable lessons were shared, together enhancing the quality of English language teaching in Vietnam.


Overview of the Opening Ceremony

Attending the Opening Ceremony were Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu, Director of the National Foreign Languages Project, Ministry of Education and Training; Ms. Lynne Gadkowski – Economic Counselor, U.S. Embassy. On behalf of the VietTESOL Association were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoa – President of the Association; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Hoa – Vice President of the Association; representatives of leaders of universities, research institutes, international organizations, sponsors, together with nearly 1,000 delegates including researchers, lecturers, and teachers from home and abroad. From CTU were Dr. Le Van Lam – Vice President; leaders of the School of Foreign Languages, lecturers, and students of the English language major.
Delivering remarks at the Opening Ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huu emphasized the far-reaching impact of technology on English language teaching in the current context, affirming that technology not only opens up flexible and creative teaching methods but also helps improve learning effectiveness and learners’ international integration capacity. She also affirmed that, with its role as a prestigious academic organization, VietTESOL holds an important position in connecting researchers, lecturers, and teachers, contributing to promoting innovation in English language teaching methods, spreading experiences and effective models to improve the quality of foreign language education in Vietnam.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Le Van Lam warmly welcomed delegates, distinguished guests, scientists, lecturers, and students from Vietnam and other countries to VietTESOL 2025, while affirming that CTU always stands ready to accompany international academic activities, focusing on innovation in foreign language teaching methods associated with technology, as well as developing integration capacity for lecturers and students. With its role as a leading center for education and scientific research in the Mekong Delta, CTU not only contributes to improving the quality of human resources in the region but also plays an important role in promoting the use of foreign languages as an essential tool to expand knowledge, strengthen research collaboration and cultural exchange, serving Vietnam’s strategy of international educational integration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Hoa shared the important significance of the VietTESOL Convention in creating an academic forum for researchers, lecturers, and English teachers in Vietnam and internationally, while also expressing gratitude to CTU for its thoughtful and professional preparation, which contributed to creating a lively academic atmosphere and spreading the spirit of cooperation and integration in the English language teaching community in Vietnam

This year’s International Convention gathered more than 550 articles in various forms, including: 4 keynote speeches, 267 parallel oral presentations, 38 workshops, 180 poster presentations, 20 technology fairs, 8 doctoral forums, 22 pre-convention workshops, 5 symposiums, and 7 featured talks. The content focused on five main themes: (1) Integrating sustainable development into educational programs; (2) Application of technology and artificial intelligence in teaching and learning; (3) Innovation in language teaching methodology; (4) Language and applied linguistics research; and (5) Professional development, competence, and teacher identity in the digital era. The Convention was not only a venue for sharing new research findings, but also a forum for exchanging practical experiences, linking scholarship with the needs of educational innovation in the digital age.

The event was organized with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness of academic exchange activities, creating opportunities for connection among English teachers, educational managers, and researchers domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to building a strong English teaching community in Vietnam. At the same time, the hosting of this year’s convention also affirmed CTU’s pioneering role in promoting international cooperation, spreading knowledge, and improving the quality of human resource training in the context of globalization.
