The 2024 Mekong Delta Veterinary Science Research Conference

On August 24th, 2024, the College of Agriculture, Can Tho University (CTU) organized the 2024 Mekong Delta Veterinary Science Research Conference.

The conference was attended by Prof. Dr. Dau Ngoc Hao, Chairman of the Vietnam Veterinary Association; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Ngu, Vice Dean of the College of Agriculture; as well as representatives from institutes, universities, businesses, local departments, and scientists, researchers, lecturers, and students in veterinary science.

Overview of the Conference

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Bich, Dean of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agriculture at CTU, emphasized that the conference is not only an opportunity for participants to share and present outstanding scientific research achievements in the field of veterinary science but also a platform for stakeholders to gain valuable professional knowledge to meet the demands of society in a new era.

At the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Ngu shared that, in addition to the development of livestock farming, the veterinary sector plays a vital role in establishing effective strategies for disease prevention, thereby enhancing productivity for livestock farmers. He expressed his hope that the conference would inspire new ideas and provide better solutions to improve production and the quality of livestock products in the Mekong Delta.

The program featured three keynote speeches presented during the plenary session, 24 reports across three parallel subcommittees, and a general discussion session. The presentations focused on the current state of animal diseases, updates on new diagnostic techniques, and scientific insights into current methods for treating diseases in animals.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duc Hien, CEO of Vemedim Corporation, reported on “Introduction of Emerging Infectious Diseases in Livestock in the Mekong Delta”

Dr. Bui Phu Nam Anh, Lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, reported on “Application of PCR-RFLP Technique to Screen for Dominant Alleles in the PDCT Gene Causing Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in Maine Coon Cats”

The conference included three parallel subcommittees on the following topics: Advanced Techniques in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases in Pets; Advanced Techniques in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases in Livestock and Poultry; and Biotechnology Applications in Veterinary Research.

The 2024 Mekong Delta Veterinary Science Research Conference provided an opportunity for participants to share and update their knowledge in the field of veterinary science in the region and to foster collaborative activities in research and application between educational institutions and the business sector, aiming for cooperation in education to meet the needs of sustainable social development.
