Can Tho University Organizes the 3rd Natural Science Mekong Delta Conference (NSMD 2024)

On August 31st, 2024, the College of Natural Sciences, Can Tho University (CTU) organized the 3rd Natural Science Mekong Delta Conference with the theme "Natural Sciences for Sustainable Development and Innovation." Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Cang, Vice Rector of Kien Giang University; Prof. Dr. Tran Dai Lam from the Institute for Tropical Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thoi Trung from the Institute for Computational Science & Artificial Intelligence, Van Lang University. Representing CTU were Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thanh Phong, Dean of the College of Natural Sciences; along with representatives of units, representatives from regional agencies and departments, and more than 300 scientists, lecturers, and students in the Mekong Delta.

Overview of the Conference

Natural sciences play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the country, especially in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The 3rd Natural Science Mekong Delta Conference provides an opportunity for researchers, lecturers, and students to publish and present their latest research results in the field of natural sciences.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai delighted to see an increasing number of participants and a growing scale of the event, with many high-quality research topics, reports, and presentations brought to the program. The College of Natural Sciences is one of the four founding units of CTU, demonstrating commitment and active participation in scientific research programs, contributing to the comprehensive development of science, technology, economy, culture, and society."

Within the framework of the program, there were two main presentations: “Developing Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence in Education and Research: A Cost-effective Strategy for Sustainable Development and Innovation in Vietnam” and “Nanomaterials and Their Applications in Industry and Agriculture.” Additionally, there were four subcommittees: Mathematics and Applications, Chemistry and Applications, Physics and Applications, and Biology and Applications. Furthermore, poster presentations and scientific and technological products were displayed and introduced to the delegates, showcasing future development orientations and applications in various fields.

Aiming to connect and strengthen cooperation in education and natural science research among scientists, agencies, organizations, and companies, the 3rd Natural Science Mekong Delta Conference affirmed the important role of natural sciences in promoting innovation. The ideas and research presented at the conference opened new directions and proposed groundbreaking solutions to practical problems. In 2025, the 4th Natural Science Mekong Delta Conference is expected to be held at Kien Giang University.
