GIZ is a public-benefit enterprise owned by the Federal Republic of Germany. On behalf of the German Government, GIZ has been implementing the technical cooperation in Vietnam for more than 20 years, in differently thematically- and geographically- focused areas, including climate resilience and the Mekong Delta. In this context, GIZ Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) are jointly implementing the "Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Program" (MCRP), with a comprehensive set of measures to foster the climate-resilience and sustainable development off this key socio-economic region of the country.

Founded in 1966 with a few education fields, CTU is now the leading knowledge institution specializing in multi-disciplinary education, training, research and development in the Mekong Delta, with 109 undergraduate, 48 master and 19 doctoral programs, and about 2.000 staff members. CTU plays a crucial role in the development and distribution of scientific and technological solutions and innovations towards a climate resilient and sustainable socio-economic development of the region. For its proven regional competencies and advantages, CTU has established and institutionalized partnership with a variety of national and international organizations, including private sector.

GIZ Vietnam and CTU realize that there exist strong synergies between the two organizations in terms of operational objectives about climate resilience in the Mekong Delta, and thus establishing a bilateral framework  is necessary and mutually beneficial to effectively implement the strategic cooperation between the parties.

Prof.Dr. Ha Thanh Toan and Dr. Christoph Klinnert with the framework cooperation agreement signed

This framework cooperation agreement is meant to provide a basis for understanding and to facilitate the practical implementation of the cooperation activities between GIZ Vietnam and CTU relating to the climate resilience in the Mekong Delta.

The cooperation activities between the two sides include research and development of tools and technologies that are required for and relevant to the climate resilient and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta; introduction and replication of innovation in relevant fields such as agriculture, aquaculture/fisheries, forestry, water, river and coastal protection; development and institutionalization of approaches, guidelines and policies, with focus on regional, provincial and local levels; knowledge management, exchange of good practices and mobilization of financial resources.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Christoph Klinnert, MCRP Program Director expressed his joyfulness when the framework cooperation agreement between GIZ Vietnam and CTU was signed, which will be the first solid foundation to strengthen the cooperation between GIZ Vietnam and CTU in the coming time. Dr. Christoph Klinnert appreciated the important role of CTU in developing solutions and scientific and technical advances to meet the requirements of climate change adaptation and sustainable development of the Mekong Delta. With the university's advantages, abilities and potentials, he believes CTU will make great contribution to the development of the region in the future.
