Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening ceremony of the 6th National Student Startup Day at Can Tho University

The 6th National Student Startup Day (SV Startup 2024) commenced with its opening ceremony at Can Tho University (CTU) on May 12, 2024. Distinguished leaders of the Party and State, along with representatives from various central and local ministries, departments, organizations, educational institutions, and numerous students nationwide, graced the event.

The National Student Startup Day is an event organized within the framework of Decision No. 1665/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister's office, aimed at supporting student startups until 2025. SV Startup 2024 was organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, and the People's Committee of Can Tho City at CTU. The goal of SV Startup is to encourage the participation of higher education and high school institutions in career counseling, employment guidance, and startup support for students. The event also aims to inspire entrepreneurship, foster innovative thinking and awareness among students, and create an environment that combines learning with practical experience in educational institutions.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh provided insightful guidance and emphasized that the student startup movement is the most important factor in ensuring the comprehensive development of the country during the digital transformation phase. The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of encouraging creativity, applying technological skills to startups, and pledged to support and create favorable conditions for student startup activities.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, leaders of central and local ministries and departments, CTU, and relevant units for their attention and cooperation in making the event a success. On behalf of the education sector, the Minister committed to fully implementing the content, spirit, and guidance of the Prime Minister: nurturing ideas, igniting passion, being determined and persistent, and not being afraid of challenges in order to succeed in entrepreneurship.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of CTU, made some recommendations at the opening ceremony regarding enhancing propaganda, education, and equipping students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills; building Entrepreneurship Support Centers and startup ecosystems in educational institutions; proposing special mechanisms for businesses to invest in student startup ideas; establishing a risk investment fund for student startup projects; and supporting the participation of teachers and experts in the startup process.

Within the framework of SV Startup this year, 700 startup ideas and projects by students will be selected for further support and encouragement to establish startup businesses. At the same time, the event will create opportunities to connect support units with students, promoting entrepreneurial activities within the community.

The National Student Startup Day is a significant event contributing to the development of the national startup ecosystem. After 6 years of implementation, the "Supporting Student Startups until 2025" program has brought about significant changes in the awareness and actions of the education sector. Universities, colleges, and vocational schools have implemented startup support activities and equipped students with knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship before they graduate.
