Opening Ceremony of the 2019-2020 Academic Year

On September 07th, 2019, Can Tho University (CTU) solemnly held opening ceremony of the 2019-2020 school year. The opening ceremony was attended by national and international guests to share the joy of a promising school year with full of achievements.

The opening ceremony was a special opportunity for CTU to express the gratitude to the guests, thereby review the achievements of the past school year and prepare for a new period promising new success. Under the leadership of the Communist Party Committee and Rectorate Board, the efforts of staff members and students, the support of central and local agencies and departments, and the people in the Mekong Delta, CTU has completed the last school year with plenty of important achievements in training, scientific research, technology transfer, international cooperation, management, facilities equipment, etc., establishing the platform for the next development step of CTU in the new academic year.

In terms of training, the University offers 79 undergraduate, 48 master's and 19 doctoral training programs. Eight thousand students have graduated, continuously providing a great source of highly qualified labor for society, especially in the Mekong Delta region.

The quality accreditation of training programs has been focused. There were two more training programs, International Business and Information Technology, which were recognized to meet AUN-QA's standards, increasing the number of programs recognized by AUN-QA to 5.

Regarding scientific research and technology transfer, the University has implemented 498 projects and signed 19 contracts of research, consultancy and technology transfer.

There were 1,260 articles published in national and international prestigious journals, in which 114 articles were published in ISI and Scopus indexed journals.

To international cooperation activities, CTU currently has partnerships with over 120 international organizations. Last year, the University welcomed over 480 delegations with more than 2,000 international visitors. At present, 20 international cooperation projects are being implemented with a total budget of about 19 billion VND, especially CTU Improvement Project using ODA loans from the Japanese Government with a total budget of 105.9 million USD.

With the mentioned achievements, many units and individuals of CTU have received noble awards such as the third Labor Medal of the President to College of Information and Communication Technology, and Prof. Dr. Tran Nhan Dung; the Prime Minister's Certificates of Merit to College of Engineering Technology, Mr. Nguyen an Linh, Mr. Mai Van Nam; the Emulation Flag of the Ministry of Education and Training to two units, the title of "outstanding unit" to 19 units of CTU.

Prof. Dr. Tran Nhan Dung, Senior lecturer, Former Director of Biotechnology Research and Development Institute

 

Mr. Le Quang Manh presented the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to College of Engineering Technology; Mr. Nguyen Van Linh, former Chairman of CTU's Labor Union and Mr. Mai Van Nam, Dean of Graduate School

 

Nineteen units received the title of "Outstanding Unit" and three individuals received the title of "Emulation Fighter"

Student Tran Gia Bao majored in International business (high quality program) course 45, represented students to express their determination for good results in the new school year

 

Ms. Duong Thi Tuyen, Chairwoman of CTU's Labor Union, launched the movement of emulation in the new school year


CTU with the mission of being "the nation's leading center for training, scientific research and technology transfer, effectively contributing to the training of high quality human resources, fostering talents and scientific development, serving the socio-economic development of  region and country”. In the new school year, with the attention and timely guidance of leaders and the help of the central and local authorities; domestic and international organizations and individuals; the support of people in the Mekong Delta region; and the efforts of nearly 40,000 students and 1,800 staff members, CTU is absolutely ready for a new school year with excitement, pride, trust in excellent completion of all tasks.
