Japanese Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City visits Can Tho University

Can Tho University was honored to welcome Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro, Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, and Mr. Masuda Chikahiro, Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office, to visit and work with the School on April 13, 2022. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector; Vice-Rectors: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Viet Dung, former Vice President, Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Association in Can Tho city; and representatives of leaders of affiliated units, particularly with the attendance of the Technical Assistance Project Coordinator Phase 2.

Welcoming the Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City to visit Can Tho University

Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector, welcomed the Consul General on behalf of the school's leaders and provided outstanding information about CTU, a center for training, scientific research, and technology transfer that plays an important role in promoting the sustainable socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta region and the entire country. The university has a long history of development and collaboration with Japanese government agencies, organisations, and partners. In particular, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has carried out and will continue to carry out numerous programmes and projects that are critical to the University since 1969. The Project on Upgrading CTU with ODA Loans, in particular, is being carried out, and the Technical Assistance Project aims to strengthen CTU's capacity to become an excellent university in terms of training, scientific research, and technology transfer as well as university governance for sustainable development in the region has completed phase 1, and phase 2 will be implemented in April 2022. CTU has signed collaboration agreements with 35 Japanese universities, companies, and industrial groups. CTU staff and students are increasingly studying abroad in Japan. CTU has more than 100 people who were educated and graduated in Japan, including 59 doctorates and 38 master's degrees. Currently, 24 staff members are studying in Japan, including 19 PhD students and four graduate students. Every year, hundreds of CTU students participate in internship programs in Japan and vice versa.

Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan expresses heartfelt gratitude to Japanese partners for their dedication and enthusiasm thus far and hopes to continue to receive strong support from the Japanese government as well as partners for the upcoming expansion of cooperation in the field of higher education and enhancement of sustainable links, contributing to the friendship between the University and Japanese partners becoming stronger and stronger continuous improvement

At the meeting, the Consul General thanked CTU for the warm welcome given to the delegation and congratulated the University on its growing and closer relationship with its Japanese partners. He also hopes that the cooperation between the University and Japanese partners will be more and more developed. According to the Consul General, the most significant achievement in the cooperation relationship over the last 50 years is the member network. Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro hopes that the University will continue to collaborate with JICA in the future to achieve even more results, allowing students to benefit from these accomplishments. During his business trip, the Consul General met with CTU's Upgrading Project Management Board to learn about the projects that CTU is implementing with support from the Japanese government and JICA. In addition, the delegation visited the School's Tradition Room, which is currently displaying the Japanese Emperor's research paper on seafood, and buildings built as part of the Can Tho University Improvement Project.
