Undergraduate As part of the state visit to New Zealand by General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam hosted the Vietnam–New Zealand Higher Education and Skills Forum 2026 on August 13, 2026, at Auckland University of Technology. The Forum brought together government agencies, higher education institutions, research organizations, and education partners from both countries, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange views on directions for cooperation in education, training, and human resource development, thereby contributing to the advancement of Vietnam–New Zealand cooperation in the new context.
At the Forum, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - President of Can Tho University (CTU), presented the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CTU and Massey University. This was one of the highlights of CTU’s participation in the event, contributing to the expansion of the University’s international partnership network and providing a foundation for the two universities to further strengthen cooperation in education and training, research, and high-quality human resource development.

On the sidelines of the Forum, CTU also held working sessions and discussions with Auckland University of Technology and the University of Canterbury - two reputable higher education institutions in New Zealand. The discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, opportunities to connect education and research programs, and academic exchange, while exploring how the universities’ respective strengths could complement one another and generate new value.

The Vietnam–New Zealand Higher Education and Skills Forum 2026 provided an opportunity for CTU to strengthen connections with New Zealand’s educational partners and explore areas of cooperation aligned with the University’s strengths in education and research, as well as the development needs of the Mekong Delta. These efforts aim to foster substantive, in-depth partnerships that create long-term value for students, faculty members, and the wider community.

As part of the cooperation program, on August 14, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh visited Massey University for a working session. During the meeting, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the potential implementation of education and training programs, focusing on dual-degree programs, collaborative programs under 4+0 and 1+1 models, and other appropriate forms of cooperation, to expand opportunities for students to study in an international educational environment. Areas of mutual interest included economics, smart agriculture, food technology, and other fields with development potential based on the respective strengths of the two universities.

In addition to education and training, the two sides discussed opportunities for joint research activities, faculty, expert, and student exchanges, as well as the development of research initiatives with strong practical applications. These areas of cooperation are important for gradually translating the commitments set out in the MoU into concrete action and advancing the relationship between the two universities from partnership-building to specific, practical, and sustainable collaborative programs.

Building on the respective strengths of the partners, the connections established in New Zealand are expected to expand CTU’s international engagement, foster the sharing and synergy of knowledge, resources, and expertise, and generate meaningful and lasting value for students, the community, and society. With a commitment to proactive international integration and the development of in-depth international partnerships, CTU will continue to explore collaborative models that align with the University’s strengths and the development needs of the Mekong Delta, so that each international connection not only opens a window to the world but also serves as a bridge for transforming knowledge into a driving force for innovation and contributing to the development of the country.
