Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, visiting Can Tho University

On February 27th, 2023, the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Minister Nguyen Kim Son, paid a visit to Can Tho University (CTU). Also attending the meeting was Mr. Le Quang Manh, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee. On the side of Can Tho University, there are members of the Board of Trustees; Rectorate Board; leaders of CTU’s units.

At the meeting, the University's leaders summarized the operation situation and achievements of CTU in recent years and key activities in the coming time, and presented the difficulties and challenges, thereby, offering suggestions and recommendations to the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Quang Manh, Secretary of Can Tho City Party Committee, emphasized that, located in Can Tho city, CTU plays the role of a national key multi-disciplinary university in training, scientific research, and technology transfer. The University has made great contributions to socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho city in particular. A mission mentioned in Resolution No. 98/NQ-CP dated August 30th, 2021 of the Government is to “upgrade Can Tho University into a center for training high-quality human resources, scientific research and application in Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta region”. Therefore, Secretary Le Quang Manh wished that the Ministry of Education and Training would continue to support CTU as well as Can Tho city according to Resolution 98’s missions.

To conclude the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, appreciated the performance results of Can Tho University in all activities, and emphasized that CTU is “one of the strong public universities in the country”. The University’s activities of scientific research, training and technology transfer have been helping to solve practical issues in the localities. Especially, the Minister expressed his impression of the plan and policy to develop the staff members in recent years with the highest percentage of staff with doctorate degrees in the public universities at the present time. In addition, the results from research activities, scientific publications, technology transfer, and innovation have also left a strong impression on the University. However, facing the development needs, the Minister expected that with breakthrough, vision and strategy, CTU needs to develop at a faster pace, becoming the leading university in Asia. Thereby, the Minister requested the University to adjust academic programs, meeting the human needs of the Delta, besides promoting the leading role in teacher training; investment in the development of leading experts. Complete, secure, in-depth university autonomy must be taken into account of the development; perfecting the system of internal regulations.
