On March 17th, 2021, the delegation of French Embassy to Vietnam led by H.E. Mr. Nicolas Warnery, French Ambassador to Vietnam, paid a visit to Can Tho University (CTU). Welcoming the delegation were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Vice Rector and leader representatives of the University's units.

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Vice Rector of CTU, sent a warm welcome to the delegation of French Embassy to Vietnam. The Vice Rector shared general information on CTU's training, scientific research and technology transfer activities, and emphasized the significant role of the University in the economic-social development of the Mekong Delta. With strengths in agriculture, aquaculture and environment fields, the University has promoted the implementation of many cooperative research programs for adaptation to climate change. The University has constantly expanded cooperation relationships with international institutes, universities and organizations. With the cooperation and supports from French partners so far, CTU’s role in Mekong Delta has been even more important. Accordingly, in the Mekong 1000 Program to train graduate staff for the Mekong Delta, CTU has sent 21 candidates taking master and doctoral programs in 15 French universities. The University has also sent 74 staff members for graduate education (47 PhD, 27 master). The University has signed memoranda of understanding with 18 institutes, universities and organizations to promote cooperation in academic exchange activities and implementation of research projects. There were 13 scientific research projects implemented with a total budget of nearly 316,000 euros.

Currently, CTU has good relations with Institute of Research for Development (IRD) to to carry out some research projects to support local people in Mekong Delta; receiving one expert from CIRAD (Center of International Cooperation on Agricultural Research for Development) to work at College of Agriculture. In addition, School of Foreign Languages, CTU also has many cooperation activities with French partners such as Campus France, ESPE, OIF, AUF, and other partners from Francophonie countries.
On this occasion, the Vice Rector respectfully noted and sent thanks to the French Embassy for supporting the University in the past years, and expressed his wish to continue receiving attention and support of the French Embassy to strengthen the cooperative relationship between CTU and French partners in the coming time.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nicolas Warnery, Ambassador of France to Vietnam thanked the warm welcome from CTU, a long-standing partner of the French Embassy. and expressed his impression on the growth, significant role and great contributions of the University to the development of the Mekong Delta region. With common interests and similar goals in training quality human resources and scientific research, the Ambassador expressed his satisfaction with the University's efforts and results of cooperation with French agencies, organizations, institutes and universities; thereby committing to create favorable conditions for this good cooperation relationship to be further developed.
On this occasion, CTU signed a general agreement with Institute of Research for Development (IRD), aiming at defining a framework for cooperation, dialogue and exchange of information, promotion and monitoring of research activities, training, consultancy and scientific information conducted in partnership between the two sides in fields such as Environmental science, Climate change adaptation and mitigation, Agriculture and aquaculture, Social science, Information and Communication Technology and Engineering.
