On March 29th 2012, Can Tho University (CTU) was honorable to host the International Conference “From the river banks to the coast – Integrated approaches of land and water use coping with climate change in the Mekong Delta”.

The Mekong Delta not only plays an important role in food security of Vietnam, but it also contributes to food security in the world. However, according to the recent forecasts of Vietnam and international research institutes, the Mekong Delta is one of the areas most seriously affected under the influence of climate change. Therefore, in recent years, the Mekong Delta have had many international programs and projects to conduct research and promote important initiative approaches and solutions in agriculture, aquaculture and fisheries, in order to help the Mekong Delta respond and adapt to possible complicated changes of climate. The conference was purposeful to share research results, different patterns of adaptation to climate change, and discuss the following actions to make it productive in collaboration between the projects and programs, with the objective to help the Mekong Delta cope well with climate change.

Participants at CTU sides were A/Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan – Rector, along with representatives of leaders from CTU colleges and institutes and related staffs. The conference was honored to welcome valued guests, who are researchers from international projects and institutes such as WISDOM, CIM-GIZ, ICMP/CCCEP, IRRI, UNU-EHS, IUCN, USGS and Cologne University.
