Discussion with Counselor for Cooperation and Operations Culture, French Embassy in Vietnam

On May 6, 2022, the school's leadership representative, Prof.Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice-rector, and leaders of the School of Foreign Languages and International Cooperation Department welcomed and worked with the delegation of the French Embassy in Vietnam including Ms. Sophie Maysonnave, Counselor for Cooperation and Operations Culture; Mr. Christophe Legris, Associate of French Cooperation - French Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Guillaunne De Miribel, Head of Examinations and Translation Section of the French Institute, to discuss and orient some cooperation activities between both parties in the coming time.

Welcoming the delegation of the French Embassy at the Executive Office, Can Tho University

At the meeting, Prof.Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai represented CTU and sent a warm welcome to the delegation of the French Embassy. The Vice-rector also shared information about the University's training, scientific research, and technology transfer activities, highlighting its strengths in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, and the environment. International cooperation is an activity that strongly contributes to the development of the University. The Vice-Rector also informed about the important results of the cooperation between the University and French partners. Specifically, in the Mekong 1000 Program to train postgraduate level staff for the Mekong Delta, the University has sent 21 staff from the region (6 doctors and 15 masters) to train at 15 French schools. The University has also sent 74 staff and lecturers to study in France, including 32 doctors, 27 masters have graduated and 15 staff are studying doctoral programs. The University has signed a cooperation agreement with 18 French schools and institutes to promote cooperation in academic exchange activities and the implementation of research projects. From 2015 up to now, there are 06 projects implemented with a total cost of more than 200,000 Euro.

In the framework of the cooperation between the France Embassy and the School of Foreign Languages ​​- Can Tho University, annually, the School of Foreign Languages ​​cooperates with Campus France to organize for students to participate in the introduction and consultation sessions for French study; coordinate to organize the Francophone Festival in the Mekong River Delta region; cooperating with the French Institute of the French Embassy to organize DELF exams (international French certificates) at Can Tho University for French students and students in the Mekong Delta region; cooperating with ESPE de Nice (teacher training school) in training French pedagogical students. In addition, the School of Foreign Languages ​​also maintains cooperative relationships with other French partners such as  International Francophone International (OIF - L'Organisation internationale de la Francophonie), Association of Francophonics University (AUF - Agence universitaire de la Francophonie) and partners from the Francophone countries.

 

In order to strengthen the good partnership in recent years, the delegation of the French Embassy, leaders of the University, and the School of Foreign Languages have discussed and proposed cooperation activities in the coming time. That focuses on creating conditions for French-language professors and students who are working and studying at the School of Foreign Languages - Can Tho University to have the opportunity to exchange opportunities related to the teaching and learning of French such as supporting the French language curriculum, exchanging volunteer teachers to teach French to students of the School; create opportunities for students and employers to meet through French-language job fairs, and etc.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Sophie Maysonnave,  Counselor for Cooperation and Operations Culture, French Embassy thanked the warm welcome from Can Tho University. Through the exchange of future cooperation directions, she affirmed that CTU in general, and the School of Foreign Languages, in particular, continue to be an important partners of the French Embassy in the Mekong Delta region. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023), Ms. Sophie Maysonnave wished that the French Embassy and Can Tho University would continue to discuss and conclude the cooperation agreement in the next year. She shared that the French Embassy is willing to support and create favorable conditions to promote the activities of the School of Foreign Languages ​​as well as develop a good cooperation relationship between the Embassy and the University.
