Closing Ceremony of the 6th ASEAN Student Leaders Forum and the 2nd AUN Students Network Meeting 2017

In order to create an extensive network of ASEAN student leaders to meet and exchange ideas and initiatives for sustainable social development, the very first ASEAN Student Leaders Forum, or ASLF for short, was held in Singapore in 2016 and this year marks its 6th year.

In 2015, at the 4th ASEAN Student Leaders Forum at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, the AUN Secretariat and student affairs administrators have reached an agreement to host the first AUN Student Affairs Network Meeting, or AUN-SAN in the Philippines, together with the 5th ASEAN Student Leaders Forum. AUN-SAN is a promising platform for administrators to work with their student leaders, act accordingly and effectively for a prosperous ASEAN.

In 2017, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho University jointly organized the 6th ASLF and the 2nd AUN-SAN, taking place on December 05-07, 2017 in Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City  and in Can Tho University on December 08-09, 2017 with the participation of 92 delegates from  AUN Secretariats and member universities of 09 countries in Southeast Asia.

The 6th ASLF and The 2nd AUN-SAN 2017 went through three successful working days under the theme “Commitments and actions toward the prosperous ASEAN community”.

At the AUN-SAN meeting, representatives from AUN Secretariats and member Universities have discussed and agreed with the policies and active programs to foster students for their preparation in labor mobility within the ASEAN community as well as to plan the activities and programs for the 2018 AUN-SAN Meeting.

At the ASLF meetings, the delegates from 22 AUN member universities have shared and discussed about the opportunities and challenges of labor mobility within the ASEAN community, its requirement of labor skills and knowledge to adapt to the regional market and the role of student union in supporting and preparing necessary skills for students in this trend.

Besides, the delegates had a chance to experience the Vietnamese history, culture and social life through such cultural activities in Ho Chi Minh city and Can Tho city.

The results of two meetings will be the considerable recommendations to the AUN and AUN member universities to implement necessary policies and active programs as its commitment in training the intellectual, competent and skillful human resource aimed to build the prosperous ASEAN Community.

Can Tho University strongly believes that through meetings, discussions and cultural exchanges, the delegates will build closer and firmer connection among administrators and students of the AUN member Universities, thus promote the collaboration among member Universities in training and developing ASEAN citizens.
