Working with Ghent University, Belgium and Awarding Ceremony Honorary Doctor degree to Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos

On October 31st 2023, Can Tho University (CTU) welcomed Ghent University, Belgium to work and sign the Cooperation Agreement (Memorandum of Agreement - MoA) and organized an award ceremony Honorary Doctor degree to Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos.

Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Rector and representative leaders of unions of CTU. On the side of Ghent University, Belgium, there were Prof. Dr. Rik Van de Walle, Rector along with professors and representatives of unions of Ghent University.

Overview of the reception

Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan said the close-knit relationship between Ghent University and CTU has been officially established through the first MOU signed in 2008. In addition, 4 collaborative projects with Ghent University have been carried out successfully. The results from the VLIR Vietnam network programme, reinforce and enhance CTU and Vietnam network partners as the institution internationally recognized and can enter the international community to share and to exchange in the fields of research and education.

The representatives of two universities exchanged and discussed achievements, programs and projects, especially the Sustainable Development for the Mekong Delta (SDMD 2045), scholarship programs based on Decision No. 89/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister and signed an extension of the Strategic International Partnership Agreement.

At the reception, CTU signed a MoA with Ghent University. Representatives of the two universities aim to strengthen the relationship through cooperative activities in the field of education, international projects and scientific research in the future. More specifically, the strategic international partnership between CTU and Ghent University includes content on activities, cooperation directions and future commitments.

At the event, CTU held an award ceremony honorary doctor degree for Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University. Prof. Patrick Sorgeloos - Professor of Aquaculture - is a person who has made many important contributions to the development of institutes and universities. Particularly for CTU, Professor has made many contributions to the fields of scientific research, training, and building a coordinated network of international training links between CTU and domestic and foreign training establishments.
